Gen. Mark Milley: Never Received "Illegal Order" from Trump Post-2020 Election

In a recent interview, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley addresses concerns about potential "illegal orders" from former President Trump.

In a candid interview with ABC's Martha Raddatz on "This Week," Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley reassured the public that he had never received an "illegal order" from former President Trump following the 2020 election.

The question of whether Trump would attempt to use the military to maintain power after losing the 2020 election had been a topic of concern in the months that followed. However, Gen. Milley's response during the interview shed light on his stance on the matter.

"I argued the case at various times for alternative courses of action, never received an illegal order," Gen. Milley stated firmly, dispelling any doubts about his commitment to upholding the law and the Constitution.

Reports had surfaced in the aftermath of the 2020 election, suggesting that top generals harbored concerns about Trump's intentions. The book "I Alone Can Fix It" by Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker documented these concerns, revealing that Milley had firmly asserted, "They may try, but they're not going to f***ing succeed. You can't do this without the military. You can't do this without the CIA and the FBI. We're the guys with the guns."

Gen. Milley's unwavering dedication to upholding the principles of democracy and the rule of law is evident in his resolute stance during that tumultuous period.

When asked about his confidence in preventing a recurrence of the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, Gen. Milley expressed optimism in the strength and resilience of American institutions.

"I am confident that the United States, the democracy of this country will prevail, and the rule of law will prevail. I'm absolutely confident of that," Gen. Milley asserted. "These institutions are built to be strong and resilient, and to adapt to the times, and I'm 100 percent confident we'll be fine."

Gen. Milley's words serve as a reminder of the importance of unwavering commitment to the principles upon which the United States was founded, even in the face of uncertainty and challenges.
